Genocide Watch staff have published the twenty-sixth Timestream in a series of critical genocides in the world. This Timestream tracks the worsening treatment of the Amazon Rainforest and the indigenous people that inhabit it. Since his election in 2018, Brazilan President Jair Bolsonaro has weakened environmental protections and allowed invasions on indigenous lands. Illegal deforestation and development projects in the Amazon Rainforest threaten indigenous lives and their livelihoods. Although ecocide is not yet subject to prosecution under international law, it is gaining recognition as a form of genocide. See the full Timestream here and view our other Timestreams here.
