Details

For decades, Greece has faced an increase in immigration from nearby nations due to its membership in the European Union and status as a gateway to Europe. Greek's government has, throughout this period, enacted discriminatory and harmful policies against migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. Greek security forces routinely abuse immigrants and extort them. NGOs and individuals who assist migrants have also faced governmental crackdowns, and some Greek communities have seen anti-immigrant militias form. Femicide, moreover, remains a major problem, and Greece's current custody laws force children to continue living with familial abusers.
