Details

Since 2018, Nicaragua has faced severe political turmoil. Protests against the government were violently suppressed, leading to over 328 deaths and thousands injured. The Ortega regime has targeted opposition figures, human rights defenders, journalists, and religious leaders, resulting in detentions, exile, and citizenship revocations. Over 3,500 NGOs and numerous media outlets have been shut down, silencing dissent. Indigenous and Afro-descendant communities have faced violent attacks and displacement.
